On Wednesday, 19 April, at 19, the first University of Tartu Spring Run will take place. The five-kilometre course starts next to the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club and runs along the river Emajõgi to the Town Hall Square and back.
According to Janelle Uibokand, the main organiser of the Spring Run, participants can run or walk the five-kilometre distance at their own pace. “Although we call it a spring run, the joy of an outdoor exercise is much more important than the pace and the way you move. We want to promote healthy lifestyles and emphasise the link between mental health and physical activity,” she said. Uibokand encourages participants to invite their family, friends, colleagues and others to join them for the Spring Run.
In addition to overall standings, the Spring Run will determine the fastest students and the fastest university. The most active faculty of the University of Tartu, based on the number of participants, will also be determined.
Registration is open until 16 April on sport.ut.ee/kevadjooks, where you can find more information about the competition classes and the race track. Until 10 April, a discount price of €5 is offered to university staff and students (the regular price is €15 from 11 April and €20 from 19 April). Enter the discount code “TÜpere” after your contact details to get the discount. To pick up their race numbers before the event, participants who have registered at the discounted rate must present their student card or employee ID card.
To ensure smooth preparations, participants are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the race. Please also note that the roads used for the competition are partially open to traffic. Participants must obey traffic rules, road signs and signals from traffic controllers.
The event is organised by the University of Tartu Sports Board (Spordiesindus), the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club, the University of Tartu, the University of Tartu Student Union and the Estonian Academic Sports Federation.
